Manila: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced on Monday that 30 of its 39 impounded units last week were luxury vehicles. The unregistered vehicles were intercepted in various areas in Metro Manila. Verification with the Bureau of Customs is underway. "We found that these vehicles are not registered or the drivers have no licenses," LTO chief, Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao, said in a video posted on LTO's social media page.

According to Philippines News Agency, the impounded luxury vehicles included certain models of Mustang, Porsche, and BMW. Lacanilao said the LTO implements fair operations and impounds vehicles regardless of type. "Whether vans or SUVs (sports utility vehicles) are involved, we would apprehend as long as a violation is committed," he said.

Meanwhile, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Monday reported a relentless anti-colorum campaign has resulted in the apprehension and impounding of 24 colorum vehicles in November this year. DOTr Secretary Giovanni Lopez said the crackdown, in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive, sent 'an unequivocal message that lawlessness in the transport sector will not be tolerated.'

The total imposed penalties reached PHP11.8 million, including fines enforced on nine impounded illegal buses and 13 unregistered vans. 'This is more than just a list of numbers; it is a testament to a committed government actively working to shield its citizens from the dangers of unregulated transport, ensuring that every Filipino's journey is not just convenient, but, most importantly, safe and secure,' the DOTr said in a Facebook post.
