Abalos Assures Local Legislators of Malaca±ang’s Open-Door Policy

Manila: Cabinet Secretary Benjamin 'Benhur' Abalos Jr. has assured city and municipal councilors that Malaca±ang remains open to all local officials, reaffirming the administration's commitment to listening to grassroots concerns and translating them into concrete government action. Abalos emphasized the importance of collaboration between national and local governments to address community needs effectively.

According to Philippines News Agency, Abalos highlighted President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s expectations for cohesive efforts between different levels of government. Speaking at the 2026 Second Quarterly Continuing Local Legislative Education Program (CLLEP) in Iloilo City, he stated, "Malaca±ang is always open to everyone. My office is always open to everyone." He further assured attendees of the government's willingness to listen and take action, echoing the administration's resolve to deliver tangible results.

Abalos, who has a rich background as a longtime Mandaluyong mayor and former Interior chief, was appointed by President Marcos to ensure the concerns of local government units (LGUs), the private sector, and the public are effectively coordinated among government agencies. His remarks underscored the vital role of local legislators in initiating development, noting that "Every worthwhile project begins with an ordinance."

Abalos encouraged councilors to adopt best practices from other LGUs, citing successful initiatives such as Iloilo City's rehabilitation of the Iloilo River under Mayor Raisa Tre±as. He also mentioned Bataan Gov. Jose Enrique "Joet" Garcia III's initiative of installing solar-powered electric vehicle charging stations as a model of innovation that supports renewable energy and public service.

Furthermore, Abalos urged local officials to leverage the eGov PH App, the administration's primary digital government platform, to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of public services. The CLLEP serves as a crucial forum for local legislators nationwide, aiming to bolster legislative capabilities and facilitate the sharing of governance best practices among LGUs.
