Antique Typhoon Aftermath: No Casualty, 152 Houses Damaged

Manila: Antique recorded zero casualty amid flooding and landslides caused by the Typhoon Inday-induced southwest monsoon (habagat) over the weekend. Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Broderick Train said local government units implemented preemptive evacuation for residents living in flood and landslide-prone areas.

According to Philippines News Agency, fifteen municipalities (Tobias Fornier, Anini-y, Barbaza, Culasi, San Jose de Buenavista, Sibalom, Valderrama, Laua-an, Tibiao, Pandan, Bugasong, Hamtic, Sebaste, Belison, and Patnongon) preemptively evacuated their residents when the province experienced heavy rainfall from Thursday to Saturday. "Antique has a zero casualty despite 2,339 families with 7,533 individuals affected by the flooding and landslide," Train said.

As of Sunday, only 861 families composed of 2,575 individuals are still inside evacuation centers, while 435 families or 1,312 individuals are staying with relatives and friends. The weather disturbance also damaged 152 houses, of which 11 were destroyed. Train mentioned they are planning to distribute shelter materials to families with damaged houses, while the Department of Social Welfare and Development has extended PHP1 million in relief assistance.
