Antique: The provincial government of Antique honored six individuals and one educational institution as 'Bugal kang Antique' (Pride of Antique) in a ceremony on Thursday. The Bugal kang Antique is the highest distinction bestowed by the provincial government, initiated during the tenure of the late Governor Evelio B. Javier, and is part of the annual Binirayan Festival.

According to Philippines News Agency, the awardees included Central Philippine University's 18th president, Rev. Dr. Ernest Howard Dagohoy, and the Religious of the Assumption for their contributions to education. Engr. Bernie Salcedo was recognized for his impact on culture and the arts as the Father of Original Kinaray-a Music, while Senior M/Sgt. Jan Frederick P. Grafane received accolades for creative expression. Jose Marie Barcelo was honored for government service, and the family of John Bert Bayawa, along with Josue Alejo, a mountain trekking guide, were acknowledged in the home-grown category.

In his speech, Dagohoy expressed gratitude on behalf of the awardees, highlighting the values and qualities of Antique±os. "We represent the beautiful landscape of a province where mountains meet the sea and where traditional values of hard work, resilience, honesty, deep love of God, for our country and for our fellow human beings, respect for elders, and robust family and community ties have shaped us into the persons we are today," he said.

Antique Rep. Antonio Agapito Legarda, who led the ceremony along with Governor Paolo Everardo Javier, praised the awardees. He emphasized the government's role in providing opportunities for those who excel and work hard. "The government is an enabler of success. It is our responsibility that those who work hard and excel are given space to thrive," Legarda stated.

Governor Javier also remarked on the importance of recognizing the achievements of Antique±os, who he described as everyday heroes deserving of honor.
