Chinese Woman Arrested at NAIA for Posing as Filipino Citizen

Manila: The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has arrested a Chinese woman at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for posing as a Filipino. The woman, identified as Wang Xiujin, was detained upon her arrival from Guandong, China, on July 13. She was reportedly using the Filipino name Cassia Palma Poliquit in her business dealings.

According to Philippines News Agency, the arrest followed an intelligence report received by the NBI, revealing Wang's false identity. The NBI discovered that Wang had obtained a Philippine passport and a Certificate of Live Birth under the assumed name. These documents were issued by the Office of Consular Affairs of the Department of Foreign Affairs and through late registration, respectively.

Further investigations revealed that Wang had established several companies in the Philippines, presenting herself as a Filipino national. Despite her claims, the NBI confirmed that she is a Chinese national with a Special Investor's Resident Visa (SIRV), as verified by the Bureau of Investment.

Wang faces charges of misrepresenting herself as a Filipino, violating conditions of her stay, undesirability, and violations of Republic Act 8239 (Philippine Passport Act of 1996). She is also charged under Article 172, in relation to Article 171 (paragraph 4), and Article 178 of the Revised Penal Code.
