Comelec Ready to Coordinate with Ombudsman on Marcoleta’s Case

Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is prepared to assist the Office of the Ombudsman in the filing of plunder and bribery charges against Senator Rodante Marcoleta. Comelec Chairperson George Garcia confirmed the commission's readiness to coordinate with the Ombudsman upon request, as stated in a brief announcement issued on Saturday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Garcia also mentioned that the Comelec's previous investigation into the senator has been dismissed. He clarified that the commission has not considered reviving the case as no Motion for Reconsideration has been received. Garcia was responding to reports that the Ombudsman has recommended charges against Marcoleta for allegedly receiving PHP75 million in campaign donations during the May 2025 elections.

In March, the Comelec concluded its investigation into discrepancies in Marcoleta's Statement of Contributions and Expenditures from the previous year's elections. A resolution from the Commission en banc halted the investigation after no evidence of election offenses was found. Nonetheless, the Comelec instructed its Law Department to examine the actions of three contributors who failed to submit their Reports of Contributions within a month following the national elections.
