Surigao del Sur: The Department of Agriculture in Caraga Region (DA-13) has successfully handed over two significant agricultural projects valued at a total of PHP3.5 million to beneficiaries in Surigao del Sur.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Maslog Carrascal Agriculture Cooperative (MCAC) in Carrascal was the recipient of a PHP2.1 million Chicken Module project. This initiative, part of the DA's Livestock Economic Enterprise Development program, includes animal housing, 1,000 ready-to-lay chickens, and the necessary feeds and biologics. This project aims to enhance egg production in the municipality and boost the income of local farmers, as stated in a DA-13 press release.
Ronica Intano, chairperson of MCAC, expressed her optimism about the project's potential impact on the cooperative. She emphasized their commitment to ensuring the project's success, highlighting its potential to stabilize the local egg supply and generate additional income for the cooperative and its members.
In addition to the chicken module, DA-13 also launched a PHP1.4 million hydroponics greenhouse project in Tandag City. This project, under the National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program, seeks to tackle the challenge of providing safe and quality food for all Filipinos. The facility features an automated hydroponics greenhouse, utilizing advanced technology to manage irrigation and fertilization, along with a drip irrigation system that recirculates water, minimizing waste and maximizing efficiency.
DA-13 Director Arlan Mangelen, alongside other agriculture officials, spearheaded the turnover ceremonies for both projects, marking a significant step forward in the region's agricultural development efforts.
