Davao City Allocates P17.7 Million Cash Aid to Tropical Storm Kristine-Affected Areas.

DAVAO CITY: The city government will release PHP17.7 million in financial assistance to areas severely affected by Tropical Storm Kristine (international name Trami), starting Nov. 20, a city official said Thursday. Alfredo Baloran, head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), said in a press briefing that the local government is processing checks for the aid distribution. According to Philippines News Agency, the financial aid will be extended to seven provinces, 10 cities, and 19 municipalities that were severely impacted by Tropical Storm Kristine. The Local Finance Committee (LFC) Resolution 2020-01 outlines that municipalities will receive PHP300,000 each, cities PHP500,000 each, and provinces PHP1 million. The municipalities set to receive PHP300,000 in aid each include Laurel, San Pascual, Lian, Lemery, Agoncillo, Ibaan, and Cuenca in Batangas; Mercedes in Camarines Norte; Los Baños and Sta. Cruz in Laguna; and Bulan in Sorsogon. Additional beneficiaries include San Fernan do in Masbate; Virac in Catanduanes; and Sariaya, Mulanay, Tagkawayan, and General Luna in Quezon. Cities designated to receive PHP500,000 each are Calaca, Sto. Tomas, Tanauan, and Batangas City in Batangas; Naga in Camarines Sur; Calbayog in Samar; Calamba, San Pedro, and Biñan in Laguna; and Dagupan in Pangasinan. The provinces of Batangas, Albay, Camarines Sur, Eastern Samar, Camarines Norte, Catanduanes, and Quezon will receive PHP1 million each. Despite the substantial donation, Baloran assured Davao City residents of the availability of sufficient reserves. He stated that PHP41 million in quick response funds are still available for 2024, emphasizing the city's preparedness for future disasters. This latest support continues Davao City's consistent efforts in assisting regions impacted by natural disasters. Earlier this year, the city allocated PHP6.1 million from its quick response fund in February to aid 15 local government units in the Davao and Caraga regions. In August, PHP14.5 million was provi ded to 27 provinces and local government units in Luzon affected by Typhoon Carina.
