Manila: The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) announced that approximately 1.49 million households now have access to safe water under its SALINTUBIG program. This initiative has resulted in 2,821 completed projects that benefit around 7.45 million people across the nation.
According to Philippines News Agency, the DILG stated that the program has enabled 340 municipalities and 1,123 barangays to overcome their waterless status. This advancement has improved daily life by reducing the time and cost associated with accessing potable water. The DILG noted that for many families, this development eliminates the need to travel long distances for water, wait for deliveries, or question the safety of their water supply. The program allows for more time dedicated to work, education, and family, easing the daily burden.
In specific areas such as Jamindan, Capiz, upgraded facilities, including an ultra-filtration plant, have simplified access to water. Similarly, in San Isidro, Isabela, a newly installed potable water system has reduced costs and enhanced access for the community.
In related developments, the DILG has initiated public bidding for vehicles valued at over PHP1.27 billion intended for the Unified Emergency 911 National Office. This procurement aims to enhance emergency response capabilities and includes motorcycles, patrol cars, and ambulances. The bidding process was livestreamed by the department's Bids and Awards Committee to maintain transparency and uphold government accountability measures.
