Manila: The Department of Energy (DOE) has partnered with other government agencies and the private sector to help the youth develop habits that promote energy efficiency and power conservation.
According to Philippines News Agency, Patrick Aquino, Director of DOE's Energy Utilization and Management Bureau, announced during a Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon briefing that the DOE launched the mall caravan for the 'You Have The Power' campaign on Monday. The campaign, supported by the Presidential Communications Office and private sector entities like SM and Daikin, aims to educate the youth on energy efficiency and renewable energy, offering practical conservation tips for everyday life.
Aquino emphasized the importance of instilling energy-saving habits in young people, believing that these behaviors, once ingrained, will persist into adulthood and influence their families and peers. The program's initial week will take place in various malls across Metro Manila, with plans to expand to malls nationwide, concluding in September.
The caravan features interactive games and gallery showcases designed to promote energy conservation. "The youth have an important role because they are the next generation. If they are careful and smart in conserving energy, renewable energy sources might be enough to meet future demand, consumption will decline, and we will be able to lower our greenhouse emission," Aquino stated.
Additionally, Aquino noted that more government agencies are adhering to Malaca±ang's Government Energy Management Program, which aims to reduce the government's power and fuel consumption by 10 percent monthly. While the program has already led to some savings, specific details were not disclosed.
Aquino reminded government employees that their service quality should not suffer under the program. He also encouraged them to adopt simple energy-saving practices, such as turning off unused lights, setting air conditioning units to no lower than 24 degrees Celsius, maintaining clean aircon filters, and switching to LED lighting.
