Manila: The Department of Health (DOH) has announced the successful procurement of approximately 1.2 million bottles of Tenofovir/Lamivudine/Dolutegravir (TLD) to ensure the continuous supply of treatment for individuals living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (PLHIV) across the nation.
According to Philippines News Agency, the DOH's statement comes in response to an advisory from LoveYourself Inc., a non-government organization, which highlighted that antiretroviral (ARV) refills would be restricted to a two-week supply due to delays in the replenishment of ARV stocks through the DOH's national supply chain. LoveYourself Inc. operates several clinics in the National Capital Region and collaborates with treatment hubs nationwide to facilitate access to HIV-related healthcare.
The procurement contract for 1,164,879 bottles of TLD, the recommended first-line ARV regimen for HIV treatment in the country, was awarded to PhilPharmawealth on March 23, 2026. The DOH stated that this volume is sufficient to support an estimated 97,000 PLHIV across the country. Initially, the first tranche of 600,000 bottles was set for delivery on May 23, but the supplier requested a timeline extension due to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. PhilPharmawealth has now committed to delivering a partial tranche of 455,217 bottles by July 5.
The DOH has prepared the allocation list for the incoming shipment and is closely monitoring the supplier's compliance. The agency emphasized its commitment to taking all necessary actions to protect public health and ensure the uninterrupted availability of life-saving HIV medicines.
To address potential service gaps, the DOH noted that TLD remains available through wholesale channels from various local suppliers. Additionally, treatment facilities have the option to utilize the PhilHealth Outpatient HIV/AIDS Treatment benefit package, which provides a specific amount per patient for clinics to procure ARVs independently while awaiting national distribution.
