DPWH Begins Clearing Operations on Blocked Roads in Bicol and Visayas

Manila: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced the commencement of clearing operations on three national road sections across three provinces that were impacted by the southwest monsoon and Tropical Storm Crising.

According to Philippines News Agency, the DPWH Bureau of Maintenance indicated that two national road sections in Antique and Southern Leyte are currently not accessible to any vehicles, while one road section in Camarines Sur is only accessible to heavy vehicles as of 6 a.m. on Friday.

In their report to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, it was noted that the Iloilo-Antique Road in Barangay Carit-an, Patnongon, Antique, became blocked due to fallen trees. Similarly, the San Ricardo-Bilatan Road in Barangay Camang, San Ricardo in Southern Leyte, was made impassable by soil erosion and fallen trees.

Meanwhile, the Tinambag-Siruma Road in Camarines Sur is experiencing flooding and is only accessible to heavy vehicles. The DPWH has put up warning signs along these affected national road sections and is actively engaged in clearing operations.

Previously, Secretary Bonoan had activated the department's Disaster and Incident Management Teams to cover the forecast path of Crising, including the Cordillera region, Ilocos region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Western Visayas, and Eastern Visayas.

The DPWH has mobilized a total of 4,928 prepositioned personnel along with 854 pieces of equipment to continuously monitor the road situation in these affected areas.
