Pangasinan: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has successfully completed a PHP9.5-million flood control project in Barangay Talospatang, just in time for the onset of the rainy season. Additionally, two road projects in the towns of Infanta and Calasiao have also been finalized, the agency announced.
According to Philippines News Agency, DPWH Ilocos Region information officer Esperanza Tinaza stated that the flood control project would offer essential protection against flooding for both residents and agricultural lands. The structure, spanning 77.60 linear meters, is designed to reduce flood risks and improve community resilience. It incorporates flood mitigation components such as steel sheet piles (type-Z), a concrete revetment wall, and a parapet wall to bolster flood defenses.
Tinaza further explained that the infrastructure not only enhances disaster resilience but also safeguards agricultural productivity by ensuring uninterrupted farming during adverse weather conditions. The flood control project, funded under the 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA), commenced on February 12 and was completed by March 13, 2025.
In Infanta town, a PHP4.85-million road project connecting Barangays Potol and Doliman to the national highway was also completed under the 2025 GAA. The 254-meter concrete road is expected to improve access to key public facilities and reduce travel time from 11 to nine minutes. This project, part of the Basic Infrastructure Program, began on February 7, 2025, and concluded on March 11, 2025.
Meanwhile, in Barangay Quesban, Calasiao, a new 557-meter road project worth PHP4.8 million has been finalized. The project replaced a previously damaged and uneven road surface, providing a safer route for motorists. Construction started on February 12 and finished on April 24, 2025.
