Davao: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Davao Region (Region 11) announced its goal to assist approximately 100 vulnerable individuals this year through its "Pag-Abot" outreach program. Last year, the program successfully served 189 individuals facing street situations.
According to Philippines News Agency, DSWD-11 social work officer Rovie Love Joy Belaya highlighted that the PHP9 million program employs a multidisciplinary approach to aid children, individuals, and families in street situations. The initiative involves comprehensive social protection packages, with beneficiaries assessed by social workers to determine suitable interventions based on their skills and conditions.
Belaya explained that the assistance provided includes transport, financial aid, shelter, psychosocial support, and livelihood and employment aid, all tailored after thorough social worker assessments. In December 2025, the program notably helped reintegrate 28 indigenous people in Davao del Norte and 56 individuals in the Caraga Region back into their communities.
When faced with resistance from those they aim to help, Belaya stated that the approach involves educating them about the importance of returning home for their safety and security.
