Surigao city: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) distributed 14,363 family food packs in the Caraga Region over the weekend to communities impacted by Tropical Storm Basyang.
According to Philippines News Agency, DSWD-13 reported that relief goods were delivered to several towns in Surigao del Sur, including Carmen with 3,127 packs, Cagwait with 2,531 packs, Tago with 3,000 packs, and Cortes with 5,026 packs, along with two barangays in Surigao del Norte. The agency emphasized its ongoing commitment to ensuring that no family is left behind during crises.
Meanwhile, efforts to clear roads and bridges damaged by landslides are ongoing. Surigao del Sur Governor Johnny Pimentel stated that an eight-kilometer road section in Lanuza, which initially had 23 landslide sites, has seen significant progress, reducing the blocked area to two kilometers.
In Surigao City, a post-disaster assessment revealed that 1,523 families were affected. Agricultural damages were estimated to exceed PHP3.4 million, while damage to school infrastructure was assessed at PHP8.1 million.
