Emergency Power Deal to Stabilize Power in Ilocos Norte

Ilocos norte: The Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC) has officially entered into a one-year emergency power supply agreement (EPSA) with Therma Luzon, Inc., a subsidiary of Aboitiz Power Corp., to stabilize and secure the province's power supply during the summer months, officials announced Tuesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, INEC General Manager Cipriano Martinez III stated that the additional 10-megawatt EPSA is designed to ensure supply stability, increasing the capacity up to a maximum of 70 megawatts. Martinez emphasized that the agreement aims to mitigate a potential power crisis and safeguard the interests of member consumer owners in the province.

Following the signing event at INEC's main branch in Dingras, Martinez reported that INEC and leading local government officials had convened earlier in the day to discuss proactive strategies in anticipation of the global energy crisis's potential impact.

Jeremiah Padilla, senior vice president of Aboitiz Power, highlighted that the deal is competitive and beneficial for consumers. He also mentioned that discussions are underway for a long-term power agreement with INEC to ensure compliance with government regulations.

Martinez noted that the rate under the agreement is set at approximately PHP5.70 per kilowatt-hour, with a discount offered for prompt payment. He expressed optimism that this initiative represents the best possible solution at present and hopes it will alleviate the power problems faced by the province.
