Hontiveros Criticizes Zaldy Co’s Online Allegations for Lacking Legal Weight

Manila: Sen. Risa Hontiveros asserted that former Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co's allegations posted on social media hold no legal weight unless he formalizes them with a sworn affidavit or appears before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.

According to Philippines News Agency, Hontiveros emphasized in an ANC interview that Co must adhere to proper procedures, such as notarization or apostille certification, before his claims can be considered by investigators. She noted that many of Co's statements are already addressed by sworn testimonies before the committee, including those from witness Orly Guteza, underscoring that accountability cannot rely solely on social media declarations.

In a related matter, Hontiveros dismissed accusations that the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee is protecting Sen. Bong Go amidst its investigation into alleged irregularities in the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). She clarified that no witness has implicated Go thus far and that the committee can only proceed based on sworn testimonies and officially submitted evidence.

Hontiveros mentioned her request for ledgers from the Discaya couple covering 2016 to 2022, expressing a commitment to explore all credible leads presented by witnesses and resource persons. She reiterated that the investigation remains active and ongoing, with the Blue Ribbon Committee's work far from concluded.
