Manila: The Intramuros Administration (IA) has ordered the immediate relief of security personnel involved in an altercation at the Pasig River Esplanade and launched an investigation into the incident, reiterating its zero-tolerance policy against violence and unprofessional conduct.
According to Philippines News Agency, the incident involved personnel of its external service provider, JSL Security Group, prompting swift administrative action to determine accountability and prevent similar occurrences. The IA stated that it has initiated an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and directed the immediate relief from post of the involved security personnel.
The agency added that appropriate sanctions will be imposed against the security firm in accordance with the terms of its contract, including the possible blacklisting of the service provider should violations be confirmed. "IA will impose the appropriate sanctions and penalties against JSL Security Group pursuant to the terms and conditions of its contract," it said.
The statement followed reports circulating on social media over the weekend showing a heated confrontation between security guards and a 17-year-old teenager at the Pasig River Esplanade, a popular public space frequented by joggers, tourists, and local residents. The incident drew public concern and calls for accountability, particularly as the area falls within a major heritage and tourism zone.
The Intramuros Administration stressed that it does not tolerate any form of misconduct by personnel deployed in areas under its management, emphasizing that public safety and professionalism remain top priorities. "The Administration is firmly committed to maintaining a safe, orderly, and welcoming environment for all visitors and stakeholders to enjoy Intramuros," it said.
IA also assured the public that it is closely coordinating with concerned parties to ensure that standards of conduct among contracted personnel are strictly enforced, especially in high-traffic public spaces such as the Pasig River Esplanade.
