Manila: Kim Rae Youn of South Korea advanced to the girls' singles quarterfinals after overcoming Filipino Jana Jelena Nicole Diaz, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, in the first leg of the ITF J30 Manila at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
According to Philippines News Agency, Kim, seeded eighth, is set to face top seed Yi-Ching Huang next, following Huang's victory over Japan's Sana Manabe, 6-3, 6-2. In other matches, second seed Park Seojin of South Korea, third seed Pimlaphat Lim of Thailand, and fourth seed Ying Chi Chloe Wong of Hong Kong also made it to the next round. Park defeated Wang Jiayi of China, 7-6 (8), 6-4, setting up a match against Thailand's Pimpisa Wongwanitkajon, who eliminated Singapore's No. 5 Emma Lam Singh Maan, 6-3, 6-2. Lim overcame Japan's qualifier Angelina Hauko Shaw, 6-4, 6-3, and will meet No. 7 Chou Pin-Tsen of Chinese Taipei, who bested Xu Yishan of China, 6-4, 6-4. Wong triumphed over China's He Yuting, 6-4, 6-4, to face No. 6 Paweenon Nualsri of Thailand, who defeated Tanisha Kantam of Singapore, 6-4, 6-2.
In the boys' division, Japan's qualifier Shun Munetoh dominated Filipino Lucas Sebastian Go, 6-0, 6-1, joining fellow Japanese players Kango Endoh and Kuranosuke Suzuki in the quarterfinals. Fifth seed Endoh dispatched Thailand's Tri Srisen, 6-1, 6-0, to prepare for a match against China's No. 2 Gao Ruochen, who won against Thailand's Tanathorn Tavachphongsri, 6-1, 7-5. Suzuki defeated Panawat Sienghen of Thailand, 6-2, 6-1, and will face Singapore's top seed Luke Jie Xi Ho, who overcame Filipino Kenzo Marcus Brodeth, 6-4, 6-3. Aoi Ishizaki survived a challenge from Filipino John Kendrick Bona, 6-3, 7-6 (8), advancing to face Thailand's No. 3 Ariyaphol Leekul. Other victors included Thailand's No. 4 Napat Pattanalertphan and Japan's Ishizaki.
