Seoul: The young artists of the National Orchestra of Korea are set to bring Korean traditional music and arts to Filipinos in an anticipated performance in Taguig City next week.

According to Philippines News Agency, the National Orchestra of Korea's Youth Educational Group will stage two shows under the Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in the Philippines' 'Korean Sound' at the BGC Arts Center on Aug. 15. 'More than a concert, the program is designed as an introduction to the depth and emotion of Korean traditional artistry as it continues to evolve for new generations and new audiences,' said KCC Director Myeongjin Kim.

Filipinos can look forward to experiencing traditional Korean court music and pansori, Korea's centuries-old tradition of narrative singing. The highlights of the event include 'The Scene of Catching the Rabbit,' a dramatic scene from the pansori Sugungga, and Together Arirang, a newly commissioned finale that weaves Filipino folk tunes with the sound of traditional Korean instruments.

The program will also feature other works that showcase the ensemble's range from classical repertoire to contemporary composition. Established in 1995 under the National Theater of Korea, the National Orchestra of Korea has dedicated itself to preserving the essence of Korean traditional music while exploring new artistic possibilities. The orchestra has since earned recognition for bringing Korea's rich musical heritage to audiences around the world.

Korean Sound has already been staged in Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, with the Philippines and Thailand next on the tour route. The KCC said the event is open to the public, with limited slots available through sign-up at bit.ly/KoreanSoundRegistration.
