Quezon city: Both La Mesa and Wawa Dams have reached their spilling level and overflowed on Monday afternoon. In a bulletin issued at 4 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said La Mesa Dam's water level reached 80.16 meters as of 3 p.m., exceeding its spilling level of 80.15 meters.
According to Philippines News Agency, water from the La Mesa Dam is expected to affect the low-lying areas along the Tullahan River from Quezon City, Valenzuela City, Caloocan City, Malabon City, and Navotas. All residents living in these areas and nearby areas, especially those near the river banks, are advised to be alert for possible flooding.
Meanwhile, Wawa Dam also reached its spilling level of 135.58 meters (spilling level 135 meters) as of 3 p.m. amid moderate to heavy rains. Watercourses likely to be affected are Upper and Lower Marikina River, Pasig River, San Juan River, main Laguna de Bay Basin, and other tributaries draining towards it. Flooding is possible in several areas due to impounding water.
PAGASA said the southwest monsoon will continue to cause heavy rains in Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Pangasinan, Tarlac, and Occidental Mindoro until Tuesday noon. Meanwhile, PAGASA said it is now monitoring two low pressure areas (LPAs) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. Both LPAs have a medium potential to develop into a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours, the state weather bureau said.
