Leyte Gov’t Considers Implementing Four-Day Workweek Plan

Leyte: Leyte Governor Carlos Jericho Petilla announced that the provincial government is currently evaluating the potential implementation of a four-day workweek as part of efforts to comply with directives on energy conservation and efficiency. Petilla emphasized that the proposal's adoption is contingent upon its feasibility and the necessity of continuous public services.

According to Philippines News Agency, Petilla clarified that the proposal is "not automatic" and highlighted that certain offices, particularly those providing essential services such as hospitals, will not be included in the scheme. The governor plans to meet with department heads this week to determine which offices might be suitable for the new arrangement.

In the Eastern Visayas region, several local government units have already transitioned to a four-day workweek starting March 9. This move aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive aimed at promoting energy conservation and efficiency. The local governments of Biliran province, Naval in Biliran, Maasin City in Southern Leyte, and Pinabacdao in Samar have all adopted this schedule.

The President's directive for a temporary four-day workweek applies to certain executive branch offices and serves as a contingency measure in response to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. However, agencies providing emergency or essential services, including police, firefighters, and front-line public service offices, are exempt from this directive.
