Manila: A new low-pressure area (LPA) identified outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has a medium likelihood of evolving into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, according to the weather bureau's social media update on Monday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the LPA was most recently located 1,445 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, as detailed in the 5:30 p.m. bulletin. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) anticipates that the country may encounter one to two cyclones this December.

PAGASA forecaster Leanne Loreto indicated that the current LPA outside PAR does not have any immediate impact on any region of the country. However, it is projected to move closer and potentially make landfall in the Visayas or Caraga area.

Based on information from the PAGASA website, the forthcoming tropical cyclone will be named Wilma.
