Manila: The city government of Manila on Monday announced the suspension of work in local government offices and classes for the Feast of Jesus Nazareno.

According to Philippines News Agency, the suspension was declared by Manila Mayor Francisco 'Isko' Moreno Domagoso through Executive Order No. 1, Series of 2026. The order affects all levels of classes, both public and private, whether conducted online or face-to-face, and work in government offices in the City of Manila on Friday, January 9, 2026, in celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene.

The Manila Public Information Office (MPIO) stated in a social media post that frontline services of the City Government of Manila, including those related to peace and order, public services, traffic enforcement, disaster risk reduction and management, and health, will continue to operate. However, the suspension of work in national government offices and private companies within the city is left to the discretion of their respective management.

Meanwhile, organizers of Nazareno 2026 have issued a reminder to the public that the 'pahalik' or the kissing of the Jesus Nazareno image at the Quirino Grandstand will commence at 7 p.m. on January 7. This activity will follow the Mass for volunteers and members of the media, which is scheduled at 6 p.m.

The annual celebration is expected to draw millions of devotees and will feature the Traslacion, a procession of the iconic image from Quirino Grandstand in Luneta to the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno in Quiapo.
