Palace to Let Legal Process Take Its Course on Charges Against VP Sara

Manila: Malaca±ang on Thursday said it will let the legal process take its course regarding the grave threats and inciting to sedition charges against Vice President Sara Duterte. In an interview, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin stated that the Palace would not intervene in the ongoing criminal investigation.

According to Philippines News Agency, Executive Secretary Bersamin emphasized that the Palace is aware of the charges but has decided to allow the legal proceedings to unfold independently. "We are aware of that, but we are going to let the process proceed on its own," Bersamin told reporters. He further clarified that since the matter pertains to a criminal investigation, the Department of Justice (DOJ) will have full autonomy, and the Palace will not provide any directions regarding these matters.

Bersamin reiterated that the investigation will remain in the hands of the investigators, ensuring that the process is followed through to its full extent. On Wednesday, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) filed charges of grave threats and inciting to sedition against Duterte before the DOJ. These charges relate to Duterte's claims of having hired someone to assassinate President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez if an alleged assassination plot against her were to succeed.
