Pangasinan: Twelve local government units (LGUs) in La Union province and ten others in Pangasinan suspended classes on Thursday afternoon following a 4.4 magnitude earthquake with its epicenter in Pugo, La Union. The quake jolted La Union, Pangasinan, and nearby provinces at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
According to Philippines News Agency, the La Union Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported that the LGUs of Bauang, Tubao, Rosario, Pugo, Caba, Santol, Burgos, Santo Tomas, Aringay, Naguilian, Bagulin, and Agoo suspended classes. Furthermore, the La Union LGUs of Tubao, Pugo, Burgos, Caba, Naguilian, and Agoo suspended both school classes and work in government offices, except for those in frontline services.
No damages have been reported so far, while assessments continue, according to La Union PDRRMO. However, 28 students from Sto. Tomas National High School were taken to rural health units after experiencing dizziness caused by the tremor. "They are now in stable condition, while five of them were brought to La Union Medical Center for further observation," the La Union Provincial Information Office said in a report.
Meanwhile, in Pangasinan, the towns of Mangaldan, Sison, Rosales, Asingan, Mapandan, Pozorrubio, San Manuel, Bayambang, Basista, and Urdaneta City, as well as two schools in San Nicolas and Binalonan towns, respectively, suspended classes. During a phone interview, Pangasinan PDRRMO emergency operations head Pia Flores said the intensities felt throughout the province ranged from one to three. "No damage or injuries from the quake have been reported so far, but assessments and monitoring are ongoing in their respective areas of responsibility," she said.
