Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is open to reconciling with everyone from the opposition and those with different political views to ensure the stability of the Philippines, according to Malaca±ang on Wednesday. In a press briefing, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro clarified that Marcos' openness to reconciliation is not directed at any particular individual.
According to Philippines News Agency, Castro emphasized that the reconciliation effort is aimed at benefiting the people, rather than serving personal interests. She reiterated the President's stance that reconciliation is essential to achieve stability, accomplish necessary tasks, and prevent disruptions in government operations. Castro noted that President Marcos is not interested in conflict, as it hinders government work by making him the target of smear campaigns and fake news.
In the first episode of his podcast, uploaded on his official Facebook page on Monday, Marcos expressed his willingness to mend ties with the Dutertes to promote 'stability and peace' in the country. Castro further stated that reconciliation with everyone, not just the Dutertes, is the 'right thing' for Marcos to pursue, given his role as 'the father of the country.' She stressed that the President seeks to maintain positive relations with all Filipinos.
When questioned during the podcast about his openness to reconciliation, Marcos made it clear that the process does not imply a disregard for the law or the forgiveness of legal violations. The aim, Castro explained, is to prevent conflict and achieve stability to fulfill his promises to the nation. She also highlighted that true reconciliation should not come with any conditions, as it serves the best interests 'for the people and the country.'
Castro concluded by mentioning that President Marcos is willing to make personal sacrifices, even in the face of slander, misrepresentation, and fake media campaigns against him. This, she asserted, is the duty of a leader committed to the well-being of the nation.
