Taguig city: The Philippine Army (PA) has reaffirmed its commitment to human rights, emphasizing its dedication to upholding these rights in every mission as part of the nationwide observance of National Human Rights Consciousness Week.
According to Philippines News Agency, PA chief Lt. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete highlighted the importance of human rights during a flag-raising ceremony at the PA headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. He stated that human rights are not only principles to be recognized on special occasions but are essential rights that need to be protected continually.
The nationwide observance aligns with Republic Act 9201, also known as the "National Human Rights Consciousness Week Act of 2002," which aims to increase public awareness about basic human rights and the government's role in upholding these rights. The 2025 National Human Rights Consciousness Week, with the theme 'Karapatang Pantao: Kasama sa Araw-Araw' (Human Rights, A Daily Companion), also marks the 77th anniversary of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights and is celebrated annually from December 4 to 10.
The PA reiterated its commitment to collaborating with government agencies, partners, and stakeholders to uphold the fundamental freedoms and human rights of every Filipino citizen.
