Manila: The Philippines secured 16 more medals, including eight golds, Saturday night at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Zamboanga City standout Alexsandra Ann Diaz delivered three gold medals in the Youth women's 49-kg division, lifting 77 kg in snatch and 92 kg in clean and jerk for a total of 169 kg.
According to Philippines News Agency, the 15-year-old niece of Olympic champion Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo also won two bronzes (77 kg in snatch and 169 kg in total) in the Junior category. Jerick Icon Castro also produced three gold medals in the Youth men's 60-kg division. He lifted 116 kg in snatch, 144 kg in clean and jerk (new Asian Youth record) for a total of 260 kg.
Kirby Kent Alas-as, also entered in the Youth men's 60-kg category, won two bronzes coming from snatch (110 kg) and total 243 kg. In other Junior category results, Prince Keil Delos Santos won the gold in snatch (120 kg) and the bronzes in clean and jerk (144 kg) and total (264 kg) in the men's 60 kg. Angeline Colonia took the gold in snatch (80 kg) and the silvers in clean and jerk (93 kg) and total (173 kg) in the women's 49-kg division.
The Philippines now has 21 medals (10 golds, 4 silvers and 7 bronzes) after two days of competition. Althea Bacaro won two golds in the Youth women's 45-kg division while Jay-r Colonia added two silvers and one bronze in the Youth men's 56-kg division last Friday.
