Basilan: The Philippine Army has officially renamed two of its infantry brigades in ceremonies held in the provinces of Basilan and Lanao del Sur.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Basilan-based 101st Infantry Brigade (IBde) has been renamed the 1101st Infantry Brigade, while the Lanao del Sur-based 1101st IBde is now called the 101st IBde.

In Basilan, Brig. Gen. Frederick Sales took command of the newly designated 1101st IBde. The ceremony included the furling of the 101st IBde's unit color and the unfurling of the 1101st IBde's new color. Officers and personnel also participated in the pinning of the 1101st IBde patch and the Alakdan patch, signifying their membership in the 11th Infantry 'Alakdan' Division (11ID).

Brig. Gen. Gregorio Nieveras, assistant division commander of the 11ID, emphasized the significance of the renaming, stating it represents a strengthening of identity, purpose, and unity. He encouraged officers and soldiers to continue their dedication and service to the people.

Meanwhile, in Lanao del Sur, Brig. Gen. Yasser Bara was installed as the acting brigade commander of the 101st IBde. The ceremony included the furling of the 1101st IBde unit colors and the unfurling of the 101st IBde unit colors, marking the brigade's return to its original name.

Brig. Gen. Felix Ronnie Babac, the 1ID assistant division commander, presided over the ceremony, reminding troops of the importance of unity, discipline, and commitment. He addressed the communities in Lanao del Sur and the Bangsamoro region, emphasizing the brigade's role in protecting homes and securing the future.

The ceremonies were attended by military, police, government officials, religious leaders, and representatives from the private sector.
