Manila: The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Monday assured there was no ashfall or indication of magma movement following Kanlaon Volcano's brief ash emission on Sunday.
According to Philippines News Agency, the 18-minute activity produced a 500-meter-high plume but did not cause ashfall in nearby areas, Phivolcs Director Teresito Bacolcol said during the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon briefing. The volcano remains under Alert Level 2, which signifies a moderate level of unrest, indicating that phreatic or steam-driven eruptions are possible.
Bacolcol reminded the public to refrain from entering the four-kilometer permanent danger zone of the volcano. "Stay calm, but remain vigilant," he advised. He also emphasized that volcano information should only be sourced from Phivolcs and local government units.
