Political Stability Assures Positive Philippine Economic Outlook, Says NEDA.

The National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) on Thursday expressed confidence that the country's current political environment will not significantly affect the positive economic outlook in the Philippines:028. According to Philippines News Agency, Balisacan emphasized that historically, the Philippine economy has remained resilient amidst political tensions, as economic policies have been broadly sustained. "I don't think these political noises would have any impact on the economy. What is important is that our economic policies, our economic policy directions are sound and sustained," Balisacan noted. He further explained that since the late 1990s, the economy has continued to progress despite political disturbances, due to consistent economic policies and directions. The NEDA chief highlighted that as long as the government stays on course with its economic priorities and programs, the business community will maintain its confidence in the economy. "The impact of noises like of what we have now, if there's any, would be quite minimal," he assured. Trade Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque supported this view, noting that more investments are flowing in despite ongoing political tensions. "A lot of investors are coming and we are pursuing those investments. They haven't mentioned anything about these things that are happening," Roque stated during the same press briefing. Tensions have escalated over the weekend when Vice President Sara Duterte launched an expletive-filled tirade against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez. Duterte also alleged that she contracted an assassin to kill the President if a supposed plot against her were to succeed. The Palace responded by describing Duterte's statement as an "active threat," prompting law enforcement agencies and the Department of Justice to initiate an investigation into the Vice President's threat.
