Provincial Board Urges National Housing Authority to Expedite Distribution of Housing Units in Antique

Antique: The provincial board is calling on the National Housing Authority (NHA) to expedite the distribution of remaining housing units to those in need within the province. Provincial board member Joseph Eugene Alojipan made a request during a recent session for an update on the status of housing projects, a complete list of beneficiaries, and emphasized the importance of collaboration with local government units (LGUs) for effective distribution.

According to Philippines News Agency, Alojipan stressed the moral obligation to ensure that no housing unit remains unused while families continue to live in inadequate conditions. He highlighted the necessity for the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Offices (MSWDO), the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, and local officials to participate in identifying families in need, particularly in flood-prone and disaster-affected areas.

Eby Archangel Butiong, head of the Antique Provincial Housing and Regulatory Office (PHARO), noted that the NHA has 33 Super Typhoon Yolanda housing projects in the province. However, as of August 28, 17 of these project sites remain unoccupied or have not been transferred to beneficiaries.

Butiong explained that the distribution of housing units has been delayed due to unresolved issues specific to each LGU. These include defects in the structures and incomplete payments for the lots, leading host LGUs to reject the units.
