PSEi Rises; Peso Rebounds to 57-Level

Manila: The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) opened the week higher, while the peso rebounded to the 57-level against the US dollar. The PSEi gained 0.36 percent to 6,488.51, and the broader All Shares index climbed 0.59 percent to 3,591.61.

According to Philippines News Agency, most sectoral indices advanced, led by Mining and Oil, up 2.97 percent. Property rose 1.39 percent; Industrial, 0.98 percent; Holding Firms, 0.73 percent; and Financials, 0.14 percent. Services was the sole decliner, down 0.59 percent.

Volume remained thin at 867.18 million shares worth PHP6.1 billion. Advancers outnumbered decliners, 123 to 69, while 72 shares were unchanged. 'The PSEi ended higher as buying pressure persisted in today's session, with more earnings releases driving sentiment toward individual stocks. However, concerns over new tariffs kept trading volume subdued, as fresh global uncertainties weighed on overall market activity,' Luis Limlingan, head of sales at Regina Capital Development Corporation, said.

The peso closed at 57.57, strengthening from 58.15 at the end of last week. It opened at 57.95, firmer than the previous session's 58.05, and traded between 57.53 and 57.99 for an average of 57.77. Volume reached USD1.72 billion, up from USD1.37 billion last week.
