Manila: Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Juanito Victor "Jonvic" Remulla dismissed rumors about the establishment of a civilian-military junta. He affirmed that the government is fully aware of individuals attempting to recruit personalities for an alleged 'alternative government.'
According to Philippines News Agency, Remulla emphasized in a media interview that there is no basis for the circulating claims. He referenced a recent account from a senator who was approached to join the initiative but declined. Remulla noted that while the situation requires vigilance, it should not cause undue concern.
He stated that the government prioritizes more pressing issues over these destabilizing efforts. Remulla assured the public that security and intelligence units are actively monitoring the situation. He confirmed that the authorities are aware of those involved, their recruitment efforts, and their objectives.
Remulla identified the participants in these discussions as predominantly retired or semi-active political figures. He explained that these individuals, while not currently in office, are still involved in political activities. Remulla's statements aimed to reassure the public of the government's control over the situation.
