Manila: A proposed schedule seeks to separate impeachment proceedings from regular sessions to ensure the Senate can sustain its legislative work once the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Z. Duterte is transmitted by the House of Representatives. Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson said Friday the setup would allot impeachment hearings on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays starting at 3 p.m.; sessions would be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays; and mornings are for committee hearings.

According to Philippines News Agency, Lacson said the proposed arrangement could help secure consensus among senators and prevent the chamber from being 'paralyzed' if impeachment proceedings are conducted daily or overlap with plenary sessions. "Ibigay natin ang umaga sa ating mga kasamahan para makapag-review, makapaghanda at sa lahat. Para hindi rin mapahamak ang ating committee hearings (We should give the mornings for senators to review and prepare, while ensuring committee hearings are not affected)," he added.

Lacson stated that this schedule would provide senators with sufficient time to prepare for both impeachment proceedings and legislative duties, maintaining the Senate's capacity to pass measures while carrying out its constitutional mandate.
