Senators Urge Lacson to Reconsider Resignation as Blue Ribbon Chair

Manila: Senators Joseph Victor Ejercito and Lito Lapid have made a public appeal to Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo "Ping" Lacson, urging him to reconsider his decision to resign from his position as chairperson of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.

According to Philippines News Agency, Ejercito expressed his hope that Lacson would remain in his role, pointing out that the issue leading to Lacson's intended resignation had been clarified. Ejercito suggested that the majority caucus should discuss the matter further, indicating that no one was eager to take over the position at this time. He also expressed gratitude for being considered for the role but acknowledged that others might be better suited to lead the committee.

Lacson had previously announced his intention to step down from the chairship, following reports of dissatisfaction among senators regarding the committee's investigation into alleged irregularities in flood control projects. Lapid, in a separate interview, also voiced his support for Lacson, emphasizing Lacson's capability due to his background in law enforcement.

Senator Francis Pangilinan also urged Lacson to reconsider, emphasizing that Lacson's leadership was crucial for maintaining institutional credibility and stability amid political challenges. Pangilinan noted that earlier disagreements among senators had been resolved in a majority caucus, and no one had sought Lacson's replacement.

Pangilinan highlighted the importance of leadership continuity during political uncertainty, stressing that the nation looks to strong institutions to navigate crises and prioritize truth, transparency, and public accountability. The Senate majority bloc plans to discuss the matter further in an upcoming caucus.
