Manila: Employees who work on March 20, a regular holiday across the nation in observance of Eid'l Fitr, will receive double their daily rate, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced Thursday. This policy aims to honor the significance of Eid'l Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
According to Philippines News Agency, the DOLE issued an advisory reminding private sector companies about the pay rules for employees working during a regular holiday. Workers who perform duties on this day are entitled to 200 percent of their standard wage for the first eight hours of work. For employees who do not work on the holiday, they will still receive 100 percent of their daily wage, provided they are on approved leave of absence on the day immediately before the holiday.
Employees who work beyond the standard eight hours are entitled to an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate. Furthermore, if the regular holiday coincides with an employee's rest day and they choose to work, they will receive an additional 30 percent of the basic wage based on the 200 percent rate. Overtime work, in such cases, will also be compensated with an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate on that day.
The DOLE emphasized the importance of employers adhering to the established pay rules to ensure the correct compensation of employees during declared holidays. Malaca±ang has expressed that the holiday declaration acknowledges the importance of Eid'l Fitr, which concludes Ramadan-a month dedicated by Muslims to prayer, fasting, reflection, and charity.
