Albay: Several local government units in Albay have suspended face-to-face classes due to heavy rains caused by a shear line and a gale warning. Classes at all levels, both in public and private schools, have been halted in the towns of Malilipot, Malinao, Tiwi, Bacacay, Sto. Domingo, and in Tabaco City.
According to Philippines News Agency, Tiwi Mayor Jose Morel Climaco expressed concerns that the prolonged rains could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in communities highly susceptible to such events. Mayor Climaco advised schools to transition to alternative modes of teaching and learning to ensure educational activities continue safely.
Malinao Mayor Sheryl Capus-Bilo emphasized that the suspension of classes is a preventive measure to protect students, teachers, and school staff. She urged the public to stay alert, minimize non-essential travel, and heed official advisories and instructions from barangay officials and other authorities.
Sto. Domingo Mayor Nomar Banda suggested that schools adopt online or asynchronous learning and secure school facilities as part of their preparedness measures. Meanwhile, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) indicated in its 10 a.m. advisory that the shear line would bring scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms across the Bicol Region.
