OCD Reports 26 Deaths from Southwest Monsoon and Typhoon Inday

Manila: The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported Wednesday that the death toll resulting from the combined impact of the southwest monsoon and Typhoon Inday, also known internationally as Bavi, has risen to 26 individuals across six regions. The count increased from 22 as reported on July 14.

According to Philippines News Agency, OCD information officer Diego Mariano communicated to reporters that the fatalities include one individual from Iloilo, two from Zamboanga Sibugay, two from Bukidnon, four from Davao Occidental, ten from Sarangani, and seven from Lanao del Sur.

The number of injured individuals stands at nine, with two from Benguet, one from Marinduque, one from Davao Occidental, one from Sarangani, two from Lanao del Norte, and two from Maguindanao del Norte. Additionally, 14 people are reported missing, including two from Zamboanga del Sur, five from Davao Occidental, two from Sarangani, four from Lanao del Sur, and one from Maguindanao del Sur.

The report highlighted that "validation of the reported casualties is still ongoing." Diego Mariano estimated that 244,000 families, or about one million individuals, have been affected by the adverse weather conditions.

Currently, 86 evacuation centers remain operational, providing shelter to approximately 5,000 families, or about 22,000 people. The report also noted that a total of 766 houses have been destroyed, while 853 houses are classified as damaged.
