Manila: The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Friday that the complaints lodged against Vice President Sara Duterte have been resolved and are presently under review. The complaints are related to Duterte's controversial remarks about allegedly hiring an assassin to murder President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and others in the event of her death.
According to Philippines News Agency, DOJ spokesperson Polo Martinez explained in a press briefing that the case is currently under review, indicating that a resolution has been reached but is awaiting further examination by the prosecution division head. Martinez emphasized that Duterte's recent declaration of her intention to run for the presidency in 2028 will not influence the prosecutors' assessment of the ongoing case against her.
The delay in the case's disposition is attributed to its "complexity," as stated by Martinez. Vice President Duterte, who is the daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte, faces complaints of inciting to sedition and making grave threats. These complaints arose after an online press briefing in 2024, where she allegedly instructed an unnamed individual to assassinate Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, and former Speaker Martin Romualdez if a purported plot against her were to succeed. Duterte has defended her statements, claiming they were taken out of context.
