Power Restored to Almost 250K Customers in Bacolod and Adjacent Areas

Bacolod: Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power) has restored electricity to almost 250,000 customers after 100 percent of the lateral lines in its franchise area have already been re-energized on Nov. 27, the power company said on Monday.

According to Philippines News Agency, operations of Negros Power cover the cities of Bacolod, Silay, Talisay, and Bago, as well as the municipalities of Murcia and Don Salvador Benedicto. In a press statement, Negros Power stated that the full restoration of power supply after the devastation brought by Typhoons Tino and Uwan on Nov. 4 and 9, respectively, is a result of a collective effort as communities and response teams worked together to fast-track recovery operations. 'This accomplishment reflects the true Bayanihan spirit,' it added.

The management of Negros Power acknowledged the assistance of government officials, barangay leaders, and volunteers as well as the work put in by augmentation teams, contractors, and the company's linemen and technical crews. In a social media post of the Department of Energy, Secretary Sharon Garin commended the rapid and coordinated response of Negros Power, noting its collaboration with the communities to restore electricity.

Typhoon Tino toppled hundreds of electric poles, damaging key distribution lines and disrupted power supply to more than 250,000 customers. During the restoration operations, Negros Power was assisted by augmentation teams from MORE Power Iloilo, Bohol Light Company, and Cagayan Electric Power and Light Company, which also belong to the Razon-led Primelectric Holdings. Such collaboration allowed faster clearing operations and reenergization of critical areas such as hospitals, water facilities, and public safety centers, Negros Power said.
