Manila: The Quiapo Church on Saturday issued guidelines for devotees who will attend the First Sunday Mass of the year at the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno in Manila on Jan. 4.
According to Philippines News Agency, the minor basilica announced in a social media post that there are three designated entrances to the shrine. Devotees planning to attend the Holy Mass and entering the church from Plaza Lacson to Carlos Palanca St. should proceed via Villalobos St. towards Plaza Miranda and the church.
For those approaching from the west and north, the recommended route is through Rizal Avenue towards Carriedo St. until reaching Plaza San Juan Bautista. Devotees coming from the north or Espa±a Boulevard are advised to take Quezon Boulevard towards Quinta Market, then enter Villalobos St. to reach Plaza Miranda and the church.
Motorists should anticipate heavy traffic, especially in front of the church along Quezon Boulevard (southbound), as Masses are scheduled from 5 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. As in previous years, the feast day of Jesus Nazareno on Jan. 9 will feature the Traslacion, a procession from Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church.
