Surigao del norte: The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Caraga Region (DSWD-13) has announced the allocation of PHP1.45 million for a new public address system in Barangay San Pedro, Alegria, Surigao del Norte. This initiative is part of the community-driven development efforts under the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan - Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) program.
According to Philippines News Agency, the DSWD-13 emphasized that the project was identified and prioritized by local residents through participatory planning facilitated by KALAHI-CIDSS. The new system is expected to directly benefit 578 households, including 120 families enrolled in the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), by providing improved access to timely announcements and barangay-level services.
Mildred, a 31-year-old member of the 4Ps program in the village, confirmed the advantages of the project as described by DSWD-13. Speaking in the local dialect, she noted the importance of being updated with local announcements and government advisories from various levels of governance. Mildred also highlighted the system's role in disseminating information during emergencies, which is critical during calamities like typhoons or earthquakes.
The DSWD-13 further stated that the project aims to enhance disaster preparedness, civic engagement, and responsive local governance in the community.
