Visayas: A yellow alert status has been reinstated over the Visayas grid for Thursday, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., following the forced outage of generating units 1 and 2 of Therma Visayas Inc. (TVI).
According to Philippines News Agency, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced in an advisory that the available capacity is approximately 2,756 megawatts (MW), while peak demand is expected to reach 2,496 MW. A yellow alert is declared when there is an insufficient operating margin compared to the transmission grid's contingency requirement.
The NGCP further revealed that a total of four power plants are currently unavailable in the Visayas this month, contributing to the alert status of the grid. These outages are in addition to the four power plants that have been unavailable since June, seven since May, one since March, three since 2025, three since 2024, two since 2023, and one since 2021.
The NGCP also reported that 18 power plants are currently operating at a derated capacity, resulting in a total loss of approximately 785.9 MW on the grid.
